Sharon Schuman earned degrees in English from Stanford (BA), San Francisco State (MA) and University of Chicago (PhD). Her teaching at Deep Springs College, Willamette University, and University of Oregon included literature classes in Shakespeare, Early Modern Poetry and Drama, Chaucer, Milton, World Literature, and team-taught seminars in political theory and literature. Academic publications include work on Shakespeare, poetry, writing, and dialogic freedom. She has also written scores of articles and commentary for newspapers and magazines, including the Portland Oregonian, the Eugene Register-Guard, the Salem Statesman-Journal, and Eugene Magazine. She can often be found in rehearsal with the Eugene Opera Orchestra, Oregon Mozart Players, or Chamber Music Amici, where she plays violin. Other interests include teaching in Italy, raising money for Fanconi anemia research, running half-marathons, weight-lifting at the YMCA, and walking her Cairn terrier, Billy Budd.
